The Secret Of The Five Dots

Nobody in our town paid much attention to Daniel’s tattoo when he first came back. It was only five tiny black dots on the side of his hand, arranged in a strange pattern. People assumed it was something random from his younger days or maybe a symbol from a trip overseas. Daniel never explained it. Whenever someone asked, he smiled and changed the subject. But there was something unsettling about the way his expression shifted every time he looked at it, almost like he regretted carrying a memory he could never erase.

Months later, strange stories began spreading around town. People claimed they had seen Daniel standing outside places long after midnight, staring silently at buildings with that same empty expression. Others whispered that he constantly checked over his shoulder as if someone was following him. Even his closest friends noticed changes. He stopped attending gatherings and ignored phone calls. One night a neighbor claimed Daniel said something before walking away: “Some marks aren’t put on your skin so people can understand them.” Nobody knew what he meant, but rumors exploded almost immediately.

Curiosity became obsession. Teenagers searched online trying to find the meaning behind the five dots. Some websites claimed it represented survival, others said it had hidden meanings connected to old traditions and forgotten stories. But one bizarre theory spread faster than all the others. According to an old local rumor, the five dots represented five moments in a person’s life: birth, fear, betrayal, loss, and the center dot — the secret event that changes someone forever. People laughed at the story, yet nobody completely dismissed it.

One evening Daniel disappeared. His house was untouched. His wallet remained on the kitchen table. His phone sat charging beside his bed. Police searched for weeks and found absolutely nothing. The only thing missing from the house was an old notebook he kept hidden in a drawer. Months later, workers renovating an abandoned building discovered a single page tucked beneath broken floorboards. On it were only six words written in shaky handwriting: “The fifth dot was never mine.”

To this day nobody knows what happened to Daniel. Some believe he simply ran away. Others think fear had finally consumed him. But people in town still notice something strange. Every now and then, someone new appears with the same tiny pattern tattooed on their hand. When asked about it, they usually smile, pause for a moment, and say they liked the design. But according to the stories still whispered at night, nobody ever gets the five dots by accident.
