Late one freezing evening, a Marine pulled into a tiny town after hours of nonstop driving. He was exhausted, sore, and desperate for sleep. Unfortunately, every hotel he checked was completely booked. One by one, doors closed in his face until he finally reached the last hotel in town. At this point, he didn’t care about comfort anymore — he just needed a bed.
The hotel manager hesitated and scratched his head. “Well… I do have one double room left,” he admitted. “But there’s already a Navy guy in there. And I should warn you — he snores so loudly that guests in nearby rooms have complained before. I honestly don’t think you’ll get any sleep.” The Marine didn’t even pause. “No problem,” he said. “I’ll take it.”
The next morning, the Marine came downstairs for breakfast looking unbelievably refreshed. Bright eyes. Big smile. Full of energy. The manager stared at him in disbelief. “How did you sleep?” he asked. The Marine poured himself some coffee and replied casually, “Never better.”
The manager was stunned. “You’re telling me the Navy guy’s snoring didn’t bother you?” The Marine shook his head. “Nope. Not at all.” Now genuinely curious, the manager leaned closer. “How did you manage that?”
The Marine grinned. “When I walked into the room, he was already in bed, sawing logs like a chainsaw. So I walked over, leaned down, kissed him gently on the cheek, and whispered, ‘Good night, beautiful.’”
The Marine took a sip of his coffee and finished, “He sat straight up and stayed awake all night watching me.”
