The shouting could be heard across the entire store. Customers froze. Employees pretended to stay busy. The boss was furious.
“Little Johnny! Get to my office. NOW.”
Johnny walked in calmly. The boss slammed the door behind him and started pacing. He was red in the face.
“Johnny, I saw you arguing with the customer who just left. I have told you a hundred times — the customer is always right. Do you understand me?”
“Yes, sir,” Johnny said without hesitation. “The customer is always right.”
The boss stopped pacing. He folded his arms and nodded. “Good. Then explain to me what you were arguing with that customer about.”
Johnny looked up, completely serious.
“He said you’re the worst boss he’s ever had.”
The boss raised an eyebrow. “And what did YOU say?”
Johnny smiled politely.
“I told him he was absolutely right.”
The boss stood there in silence for a moment… then couldn’t help it. He burst out laughing.
Sometimes the smartest employees don’t break the rules. They just follow them a little too perfectly.
