SHE ASKED HIM FOR ONE STRANGE FAVOR — THEN HE SAID IT

A young man was shopping in a supermarket when he noticed a little old lady following him from aisle to aisle. Every time he stopped, she stopped. Every time he moved, she stayed close. What made it worse was the way she stared at him — not creepy, just… intense. Soft. Almost sad.

At first, he thought it was his imagination. But when he reached the checkout line, she finally stepped ahead of him and turned around. With a gentle smile and watery eyes, she said, “I hope I haven’t made you feel uncomfortable. It’s just that you look so much like my late son.”

The young man felt his chest tighten. He smiled back kindly and said, “That’s okay.”

She hesitated, then added, “I know it sounds silly, but it would mean so much to me if, when you leave, you could call out ‘Goodbye, Mom.’”

He didn’t hesitate. “Of course,” he said.

As he finished paying, he pushed his cart toward the exit. Just before leaving, he turned back, raised his voice, and called out warmly, “Goodbye, Mom!”

The old woman beamed, tears streaming down her face. “Goodbye, my dear,” she replied, waving.

Touched, the young man walked out smiling… until the cashier stopped him.

“That’ll be $127.50,” she said.

Confused, he replied, “But I already paid.”

The cashier looked at him calmly and said, “Your mom said you’d take care of her bill.”
