This Image Is Being Used to Scare You — It Has Nothing to Do With “Sleeping Cold”

Posts like this are intentionally misleading. The caption cuts off just enough to suggest a cause—“sleeping co…”—and lets fear fill in the rest. But the claim implied here is false.

Sleeping without covers, sleeping cold, using a fan, or having the window open cannot cause a severe skin condition like the one shown.

What you’re seeing in these images is not the result of a sleeping habit. Conditions that cause widespread skin lesions like this are typically linked to medical issues such as:

  • Severe dermatological disorders
  • Autoimmune reactions
  • Advanced infections
  • Allergic or inflammatory conditions
  • Rare chronic illnesses

They do not appear suddenly from temperature exposure during sleep.

This kind of post follows a familiar clickbait formula:

  • Use a shocking image
  • Cut the sentence short to spark curiosity
  • Imply a common habit is dangerous
  • Push viewers to “see more” for answers

No doctor, dermatologist, or medical authority supports the idea that sleeping cold causes anything remotely like this.

It’s also important to say this clearly:
Using someone’s real medical condition as fear content is exploitative and misleading.

If you ever see a post that:

  • Shows extreme medical imagery
  • Blames a normal daily habit
  • Offers no medical explanation
  • Redirects for “details”

…it’s not education. It’s engagement bait.
