A man stood up one morning and stretched his arms as he normally did, only to feel a sudden, sharp pain shoot through his upper arm. At first, he assumed he had simply pulled a muscle. But within hours, the area became sore and swollen, and he noticed something much stranger: the shape of his upper arm had visibly changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The unusual bulge appeared because he had suffered a tendon rupture<\/strong>. Tendons are strong bands of connective tissue that attach muscles to bones, and they can partially or completely tear when subjected to sudden stress. Previous tendon degeneration, repetitive strain and certain medical conditions or medications can further increase vulnerability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So what initially seemed like nothing more than an unusually painful stretch turned out to be a torn tendon<\/strong>, explaining the dramatic change in the man\u2019s arm.
