They weren\u2019t seeds. And the fact that they were in my bed<\/em> \u2014 on my sheets, near my pillow \u2014 made something cold settle in my stomach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I picked one up. It was firm, almost shell-like. When I rolled it between my fingers, it didn\u2019t crumble. It didn\u2019t break. I checked under my bed. Behind it. Inside the corners. And there it was: a small, dark smear along the baseboard. Another pellet. And another.
