Little Johnny comes home from school looking unusually serious, dragging his backpack behind him. His father notices right away that something is wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s the matter, Johnny?\u201d his father asks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI got an F in arithmetic today,\u201d Johnny says quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAn F?\u201d his father replies in shock. \u201cHow did that happen?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell,\u201d Johnny explains, \u201cthe teacher asked me, \u2018How much is 2\u00d73?\u2019 and I said \u20186.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the right answer,\u201d his father says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI know,\u201d Johnny nods. \u201cBut then she asked me, \u2018How much is 3\u00d72?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The father frowns. \u201cThat\u2019s the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what I told her,\u201d Johnny says. \u201cI said if you know one, you know the other. But she still marked it wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The father shakes his head. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t seem fair at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd then,\u201d Johnny continues, \u201cshe asked me, \u2018What\u2019s the difference between 5 and 7?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo what did you say?\u201d his father asks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI said \u2018Two,\u2019\u201d Johnny answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s correct again,\u201d the father says, even more confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah,\u201d Johnny sighs. \u201cBut she said I was being a smart mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The father rubs his temples. \u201cUnbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Johnny shrugs. \u201cAnd right before the bell rang, she asked, \u2018Who made that awful noise in class?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd what did you tell her?\u201d his father asks carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
